Qualitative research is a systematic scientific inquiry which seeks to build a holistic, largely narrative, description to inform the researchers understanding of a social or cultural phenomenon (Astalin, 2013, p. 118). Therefore, researchers see issues or challenges through different lenses using theories. Being able to focus on various aspects of issues using data and the ability to establish a framework for conducting an analysis help researchers answer a research question that is complicated or problems that may be rectified and create a positive social change in society (Astalin, 2013; Ravitch & Carl, 2016). In society, there is no way to understand why things happen in the world. Therefore, a lens or different perspective can be applied to the issue. For example, to conduct instructors interactions with physically challenged students or in an environment with diverse cultures, theories can be implemented for students with various learning environments. The phenomenological approach is feasible to gather data for instructors instructing students with disabilities by collecting data through interviews that are semi-structured or unstructured opinion polls. Ethnography is a branch of anthropology that provides scientific description of individual human societies (Astalin, p. 120) and can be used to research instructors ability to teach diverse cultures. For example, a researcher conducts in-depth interviews to analyze and understand how instructors convey information to all individuals with or without disabilities for undergraduate level coursework (i.e., algebra or science) and how they ensure all students understand material given for the course through their personal experiences of face-to-face or hybrid instructional method. According to researchers, a conceptual framework for comparing the social value creation of different and unrelated interventions that serve different needs of different treatment groups in various socioeconomic and institutional contexts will enable a researcher to provide data relevant for understanding teaching strategies and constructs (Kroeger & Weber, 2015, p. 43). The theoretical framework serves to provide the fundamental basis and structure of the qualitative research proposal, as well as the rationale that supports the overall study, the problem statement, the purpose and significance as well as the research questions. In the light of applying the lens approach, a holistic picture of the research problem is presumed. According to (Ravitch, & Carl, 2016) this roadmap should consist of the type of research to be conducted, the method to be used, and how the research data and interpretation will follow. For example, Stefan Seuring, & Stefan Gold, (2012) when investigating the health-related issues among a population argued that using the theoretical lens. Gave them an insight into what the health challenges was; in addition to the evaluation of past literature which identified the health-related problem they wanted to resolve and the limitations, they found in the course of the study. Additionally, Hammer, et al., (2011) postulated that the use of the theoretical lens in any research work helps to reinforce the conceptualization of the research framework about the question or problem under review. Therefore, it will not be proper to undermine the benefit of utilizing the theoretical lens when conducting qualitative research. In another example, (Roy, et al., 2015) posited that when examining the challenge of overcoming the constraint of imprinting faced by entrepreneurs gave credence to the use of the theoretical lens. The authors argued that adopting the lens concept inspired the use of open-ended questions and interviews to contextualize their objective of making individuals overcome the problem of imprinting challenges often faced by entrepreneurs. Conclusively, the theoretical lens should be deployed first before embarking on any research work.
